This workshop focused on creating clear, reliable “before and after” maps using the ArcGIS Parcel Fabric, helping GIS professionals visualize and communicate land changes over time. Participants learned how to leverage the parcel fabric’s temporal capabilities—such as record-driven workflows, lineage, and historic tracking—to reconstruct parcel configurations at specific points in time. The session walked through practical techniques for querying historic records, isolating relevant parcels, and symbolizing changes so that splits, merges, boundary adjustments, and right-of-way impacts were easy to interpret and present.
Beyond the technical steps, the workshop emphasized the importance of understanding parcel data as an evolving system rather than a static snapshot. Attendees explored how to ensure accuracy and consistency when comparing time-based states, avoided common pitfalls in interpreting historic geometry, and designed maps that effectively supported decision-making, public communication, and legal or administrative review. By the end, participants were equipped not just to produce “before and after” visuals, but to confidently explain the story of change embedded within the parcel fabric.
